Pulsating, You Betcha!

It was the sort of game that is usually (and probably has been) described in the press as 'pulsating'.

Extended News
I saw Lincoln play Darlo back in September and they were awful - limp and uninspired. Under the influence of Peter Jackson and his heavy metal hair, they're a completely different team.

Both sides had lots of chances in the first ten minutes or so, Hudson hitting the post for us with a great volleyed shot. Then O'Grady managed not to be offside (the linesman on our side had a problem with offside decisions for both teams all afternoon) and D Holmes tapped in.

After that, I didn't really see Lincoln equalising - they kept threatening, but their finishing wasn't great, and Lee Frecklington, who'd been the star of their midfield went off at half time. So in the end we felt charitable and gave them a goal when Coughlan and Don failed to communicate with each other and Jamie Forrester latched on to Coughlan's misplaced header.

Within about ninety seconds, we were ahead again, with D Holmes having a free header from Big Pablo's cross. He could have got his hat-trick before he did, missing what seemed like an easy chance, though you couldn't really tell from the view we had (and Tim had even less of a view as a bloke in the next block insisted on standing up at vital moments - there were remonstrations at half-time...)

Lincoln took Forrester off and their threat went with him, despite efforts from John-Lewis (never knowingly under-goaled...). We brought Ross on to beef things up and then Toxteth and Pablo combined to provide D Holmes with another tap-in. He's probably still clutching the match ball now...

The ref was a teeny bit of a homer, booking Mills and Coughlan for very little and letting a few iffy tackles from the Lincoln players go, but when one of them lunged in needlessly on Hudson with a couple of minutes to go, he didn't have any choice but to send him off.

Overall, another very good team performance, the cock-up for the Lincoln goal excepted. It's great to see us playing three up front away from home, and though the strikers have been shooting and missing, they've got the confidence to shoot, which was really lacking for long spells last season.

MoM - Pablo Mills. Another outstanding performance in midfield.
