RUST club liaison meeting with Phil Henson and Dave Nicholls, 7th Nov 2001,
The survey results were presented, and these together with the forum report comprised the agenda for the meeting. In order to be as concise as possible
1.. RUST&..WHY CANT THE CLUB GET ITS SEATING POLICY RIGHT?
rufc&..There had been problems early this season before the computerised system went in and during early operation, which the club admits but which have now hopefully been solved. It is now impossible to double book a seat for example. No reason why a seating plan could not be put together and pinned to the ticket office wall for easy reference and this will be looked into.
rust comment&&.fair do's and the new computer seems to be working well now, but we'll be monitoring progress. We'll have a word with the office re: a seating plan.
2. RUST&..THE TICKET OFFICE HOURS DON'T ALLOW FLEXIBILITY, TO PURCHASE TICKETS BEFORE/AFTER WORK FOR EXAMPLE.
rufc&.we will open early (8) and close late (7) on some days at least as a trial and see if demand is effective.
rust comment&&..excellent, hope this helps fans to get tickets easier.
3. RUST&.SEASON TICKET HOLDERS WANTING TO TAKE CHILDREN WHO DO NOT HAVE ONE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS AT THE TURNSTILE
rufc&.we cannot take cash as well at the season ticket turnstiles, but from now on as long as others e.g. children have a ticket of any kind they will be let through the same turnstile.
rust comment&.. hopefully this will now be ok, let us know if not&&.
4&RUST&MANY ARE UNHAPPY BOTH AT HIGH SEASON TICKET PRICES AND LACK OF FAMILY TICKETS/ REASONABLE CHILD CONCESSIONS AND THIS IS AFFECTING ATTENDANCES.YOUNG SUPPORTERS ARE THE FUTURE OF THE CLUB.
rust comment&.. a positive response which shows that it has been realised that attendances have been badly affected, we will need to liaise closely about next season&
5...RUST&OFFERS, TICKETING ARRANGEMENTS ARE EITHER POORLY ADVERTISED, HIDDEN IN OTHER ARTICLES, OR VERY LATE
rufc&we have not considered front page advertising to be value for money and the information is out there for people to see or to contact us for information at any time. However we will try putting ticket information together with the commercial "box" taken each week in the Advertiser.
rust comment.. we'll wait for the advert and see on this one
6.. RUST.. WHY HASN'T MORE PROGRESS BEEN MADE ON THE GROUND ISSUE?
rufc&no money is available to do anything unless we remain in this division next year when it will be looked at again. We have already got the plans and there will be no problem putting them forward at the appropriate time.
RUST&..IF THE PLANS ARE AVAILABLE WHY NOT GET PLANNING PERMISSION NOW, AT LITTLE COST, SAVING MONTHS WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO PROCEED?
rufc&.the plans will go through quickly enough once we are able to proceed with any development
rust comment&.. as time goes on we are missing opportunities and there should be no pause in the programme to redevelop millmoor , a great deal of time can and will be lost at the planning stage.. if plans have been drawn up what is to prevent planning permission being sought? also fans should be consulted or at least see plans for a new ground.
7. RUST&.THERE IS NO CONCESSION FOR STUDENTS
rufc&none is planned. We consider that the child concession level is set higher than many clubs at 16, and it is not a college town.
rust comment& a shame, you don't have to be a college town to have fans who are students, and this position completely ignores further education&student level concession doesn't have to be child level&&and students today have even less money considering the loan system.
8..RUST&WHY IS THE CLUB SO SECRETIVE ABOUT POLICY AND RARELY CONSULTS ITS FANS
rufc&financial and other policy is the perogative of the chairman and board. Most things appear in the press soon after any announcement is made. One aspect of consultation soon will be the next home shirt, for which several alternatives will be made up by Bodyline and exhibited so that fans can vote for their choice. Q and A's are regularly offered on the website
rust comment&.our estimate, based on rust members, is that only 30% of fans have access to the internet so the website is only a partial solution. We'd like to see much more consultation on the more major issues of direct interest to fans such as ticketing and the ground.
9.. RUST&WHY NOT USE A SCROLLING ELECTRONIC BOARD TO ADVERTISE MATCHES, PRICES ETC OUTSIDE THE GROUND
rufc&this sort of thing could be tried when a new ground comes along but wouldn't be cost effective at the moment.
rust comment&&. we will get an estimate of cost for the sort of thing suggested and take it back to the club.
That's it, hopefully the first of several meetings each season to get our views across. Any queries/questions you've got about anything above just get in touch in the usual way.
